Carrying the Tapa course

Hello and welcome to my journey of carrying the tapa.

Day 1-

- Introductions of our 4 host people

- What (E)ducation  (R)eview (O)ffice are looking for in school in terms of Pacifica and Maori

Lauran from Culture Counts (Below)- Through her talk I am going to bring a deeper relationships into the classroom, starting with ensure I know your child in a deeper context.  So you guys can expect a text, phone call, and/or a home visit in the coming weeks.
I have also learnt about the importances of accountability for myself as your child's teacher.  If something is not work with your child how can I change my approach them to succeed. 

Education Review Office (ERO)- Spoke about how teachers are accelerating their students.  What am I doing to move the children in the classroom towards the standards.

Day 2-

The next guest was a new entrance teacher/deputy principal of her school who had the most wonderful attitude towards teaching her students.  I was amazed at the passion that flowed through the room.   I think this passion is needed in every teacher to show students that it is alright to love learning and get an education.  She also had a very good talent to let the students make their own choices, especially within her family too.  

We had a very special performance from Taita High School.  I was so blown away by the fact their teacher who was doing the course was able to get them at such short notice (overnight). A real testament to the strong relationship between students, parents and teachers. In the performance was a spoken poem delivered to us by head girl Susana.  Amazing talent out there can't  wait to open the door way for your child

Day 3- Final Day

This was a day of celebration though still a lot to learn.  We had a blast.

The First speaker was from Avalon Intermediate.  He talked about engaging the children in their learning.  Some challenges and success he had in a very difficult behaviour school.  The use of technology and sport was inspiring to me.  I would encourage you too have a look at their website and see their cool video, and student voice throughout their programs.

Which comes to my favourite part of Carrying the Tapa.  We heard from some amazing, talented, inspiring people.  These people live the grind of education.  They stress like us, they have bad days like us.  But more importantly they want to learn. Thats right its our children. We had 5 brilliant children that told 60+ teachers what they wanted.   

It was a great learning week for me.  Things I want to bring to my classroom humour,  deeper relationship with your children,  get you parents involved in room 15's learning and give your child their voice by listening to them.
